Aint So Great

Tom : D
  G C G/B
A7sus4 A7

[Verse 1]
G C
There's a man across the river
G/B
Who left this town for a potluck dream
A7
With his whole life in a sack
G C
The real deal never hit him
G/B
He never knew things aren't what they seem
A7
Now he's got no way back
G
Now he's always outside
C
Lookin' up at the pale blue sky
G/B A7
Wondering why he never tried to be free
G
Maybe it ain't too late
C
Can the devil's advocate be the saint?
G/B A7
I guess we'll all just have to wait and see

[Chorus]
G D Am C
The golden days are way behind of when he was lucky all the time.
G D
He?d try to do things right but they?d come out wrong.
Am C
He wants to leave this town but he ain?t that strong.
G D Am C
The concrete's cold and the blankets thin, salvation lies within my friend.
G D
Now his home is a wooden crate.
Am C G D Am C
I guess life just ain?t so great sometimes.

[Verse 2]
G C
He takes another sip from the bottle
G/B
Another headache for the road
A7
And he starts to feel ashamed
G
Well it burns goin' down
C
But it lights up his life,
G/B
Unlike this town,
A7
Where he tries to stand the pain
G
Well, he pulls up his sleeve and he tightens his belt
C
He's gonna feel better than he's ever felt
G/B
For this old man who?s already been dealt
A7
A hand that's bound to fold
G
He walks by a mirror and he looks at his face
C
It's wrinkled and shallow without any grace
G/B
And for this old man, it's hard to embrace
A7
The trials of getting old

[Repeat Chorus]
G/B C
Looking at the world through children?s eyes
G/B
His mind is filled with faces and places
C Dsus4
And things he won?t realize until he dies
